The new Gagarin Airport Facility (Saratov) is under construction 20 km northward of Saratov, in the area of Saburovka Village. Construction of the new international airport is the largest infrastructural project implemented in the territory of the region. The new airport will replace the existing one after completion of construction, which will be decommissioned and eventually integrated with the urban development.

The project provides for construction of an artificial runway of 3,000*45 m and a passenger terminal with the area of 23 thousand sq m, whose throughput capacity will be 1 million pax. per year. JSC SarAero-Invest (an affiliate of Airports of Regions holding) provides for construction of the passenger terminal and administration and operational buildings required to service passengers and their luggage, air cargo, mail, accommodation of airport staff and special machinery used in functional processes of airport operations. Esta Construction LLC was selected as the general contractor for construction.

The construction project of the new airport facility in Saratov is implemented on the basis of public-private partnership and carried within the framework of the Federal Target Program “Development of Russian Transport System (2010-2021).”

 The goal of project implementation is to increase air mobility of regional population and improve flight safety. The new Saratov airport is planned for commissioning in spring 2019. The name of Gagarin was assigned to the new Saratov airport by the Decree of the Russian Government on May 22, 2018.
