Airports of Regions MC to receive a syndicated loan for Novy Urengoy airport upgrading
VEB.RF Group and Gazprombank will provide financing for the Novy Urengoy passenger terminal development project to be delivered by Urengoyaeroinvest LLC (run by Airports of Regions MC).
The syndicated loan provided by VEB.RF and Gazprombank amounts to 7.5 billion roubles, while VEB.DV plans to issue an easy loan of 3.7 billion roubles. The money will be invested into the construction of a new 19,600-sqm domestic passenger terminal with a capacity of 840 passengers per hour. It will be equipped with three boarding bridges, 12 check-in counters and a warm bus gate for passengers to embark and disembark, which is especially important during the severe winters of Yamal. In addition, the Novy Urengoy Airport’s airfield is being overhauled as part of this project: the runway, taxiways and apron are being reinforced, 15 aircraft parking positions have been fashioned, radar and lighting equipment has been upgraded.
Large-scale reconstruction is carried out without interruption of the airport’s operation – in the evening and night hours and during the “windows” or breaks between aircraft flights. Currently, the first stage of the airfield revamping has been completed.
Renovation of Novy Urengoy Airport is Russia’s first comprehensive airfield and terminal infrastructure modernisation project to be delivered under the law on concessionary agreements. The project is being implemented under a concession agreement between the government of Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area and Urengoyaeroinvest. The investment phase of the project is slated for completion by the end of 2022.
