AIRPORTS OF REGIONS HOLDING ASSUMES OPERATIONAL MANAGEMENT OF NOVY URENGOY AIRPORT
On September 7, Urengoyaeroinvest LLC (a company of the Airports of Regions Holding) assumed operational management of the Novy Urengoy Airport. Hence, the largest air hub of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District has become the sixth operating airport managed by the Airports of Regions Holding.
Operational management comprises ground servicing of aircraft, supporting technical readiness of the airport, passenger and luggage servicing and other activities required to arrange passenger and freight air carriage.
The Airports of Regions Holding is developing a design package for construction of a new passenger terminal and aerodrome upgrade in parallel with operational management of the airport. To recap, upgrade of the Novy Urengoy Airport is the first project for development of airport infrastructure in Russia implemented within the framework of the law on concession agreements. The relevant agreement between the government of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District and the Airports of Regions MC was signed in Salekhard on March 14, 2018. The term of the Agreement is 30 years, including the investment phase that will take 3.5 years. Urengoyaeroinvest LLC was earlier recognized as the winner of the investment tender staged by the government of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District in January of this year.
The new passenger terminal of the Novy Urengoy Airport with the area over 10 thousand sqm will be equipped with three passenger loading bridges and ten check-in counters at the first stage. Its throughput capacity will be 800 Pax per hour and 1.45m Pax per year. The master plan of airport development provides an opportunity to increase the terminal area and create a sector for international flights servicing. Construction of short-term and long-term parking areas with the capacity of 200 and 300 parking slots respectively is planned on the landside in front of the new terminal.
Renovation of the runway, taxiways and apron will also be implemented at the expense of the Airports of Regions Holding. All facilities construction and renovation activities will be performed without terminating the operational activities of the airport.
Passenger traffic of the Novy Urengoy Airport was over 939 thousand people as of 2017 year-end.
