AIRPORTS OF REGIONS RENOVATES THE AIRPORT IN NOVY URENGOY

On 14 March, a concession agreement for the design, construction, renovation and use of the airport complex in Novy Urengoy was signed at Salekhard. The document was signed by the Governor of the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, Dmitry Kobylkin, and by the General Director of Airports of Regions MC, Yevgeny Chudnovsky.

Urengoyaeroinvest LLC (a part of Airports of Regions) won the investment tender announced by the Government of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District in January this year. Renovation of the airport of Novy Urengoy is the first Russian airport infrastructure development project implemented under the concession agreement law. The term of the agreement will make 30 years, of which 3.5 years will make the investment phase.

“This is the first concession of this sort in our country. I am glad that we have the honour to deal with this ambitious task. As a result of renovation, Yamal habitants will receive a comfortable modern terminal. The airport capacity will grow 4 times. I would like to emphasize that during the renovation period the airport will operate as usual,” said Dmitry Kobylkin, the Governor of Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, commenting on the agreement.

The today’s agreement launched the project of modernization of the infrastructure of the largest aviation hub in the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District. The project includes the construction of a new passenger terminal that meets the modern passenger service standards, the arrangement of the parking space and the airport land side, as well as the complete reconstruction of the airfield.

“Airports of Regions has accumulated significant experience in the renovation and development of the infrastructure of regional airports in Russia. We intend to use our experience at the airport in Novy Urengoy,” said Evgeny Chudnovsky, General Director of Airports of Regions. – Our company proposed a unique architectural project of the new passenger terminal building, which, for sure, will become a “visiting card” of our city.

At the first stage, the new Novy Urengoy airport passenger terminal of 10 thousand sq. m. in area will be equipped with three air bridges and 10 check-in counters. The terminal capacity will make 800 passengers per hour and 1.45 million passengers per year. The Master Plan for the airport development provides for the increase of the floor area of the new terminal and construction of an international flight service area. It is planned to build short-term and long-term parking lots for 200 and 300 cars, respectively, at the airport land side in front of the new terminal.

The Holding Company will finance complex renovation of the runway, taxiways and a new apron. The facilities will be constructed and renovated without terminating the airport operations.

The reconstruction of the infrastructure of the Novy Urengoy airport is scheduled to start already this year and will be completed before the end of 2021. The investments in the design, construction and renovation of the airport complex to be attracted by the company will amount to more than 7.2 billion rubles. The project will be financed by Gazprombank.
